Learn Japanese Quick – Rocket Japanese Review

You have probably seen advertisements or saw a recommendation in a forum for Rocket Japanese, a program which claims that it can teach you Japanese quick. These ads probably got you a little curious, but you don’t really want to spend the money without know what you are getting yourself into. This article will start by describing what you should get with each component of a program and finish by reviewing the program as a whole in addition to reviewing each component.

The program consists of 6 “components.” The first component is a 31 lesson interactive audio course, these lessons cover common terms to help you get around using public transportation and aids in helping you become a part of the community. While this is standard stuff for a language program, most programs do not provide transcripts of the conversations from the audio tracks, and these transcripts are in both English and Japanese.

This is a nice bonus as most programs are not concerned with teaching you to read or write Japanese, focusing solely on the speaking and understanding.

Component 2 consists of grammar and cultural lessons. These lessons will help you know when and how to use certain phrases, and when it is proper to do so, including how to act while saying the phrase. This is another one of those nice bonuses, as it will help you assimilate into the culture you are visiting or dealing with more easily.

Component 3 is a vocabulary software game. This is pretty much just an interactive version of flash cards, but the interactivity does make it a lot more fun and helps to retain the knowledge.

Component 4 is another game, but this time it is an audio game that is designed to make you recognize over a thousand Japanese words. This is a very nice feature, as many methods of learning Japanese (learning from a book for example) don’t really help you pronounce the words or help you recognize when you are mispronouncing the words, this is typically something you only get from a full audio program or from a class.

Component 5 focuses on writing Japanese, with (you guessed it) another game. This game shows you a character and asks you to select the word on the right that corresponds with the character. Again, most programs focus on understanding and speaking Japanese, so adding reading and writing Japanese to the program is a huge plus.

Component 6 is a learner’s forum where you can get help from other people learning Japanese or from the Rocket Japanese staff. While nice, it isn’t really anything special as there are countless free forums out there that can provide the same aid.

As you can see by now I really do enjoy the Rocket Japanese program due to the interactive games which help take out some of the monotony of learning another language, and also due to the emphasis placed on reading and writing Japanese, something most programs lack.

If you are interested in learning Japanese quick then I highly recommend Rocket Japanese, click here for more information on Rocket Japanese.
