Having spent hours in the slough of despond trying to grind out a good translation that at least sounds like the mother tongue I speak, I appreciate what you have to say about this. Greek, I think, is much like French, in that the articles are there, but don't lend themselves to the twisted americanese we wrap around them. With French, I find that the definite article is often a noun marker and not much more.Therefore, what is a perfectly good construction in Greek is actually a prepositional phrase in English. The French use l'appareil photo for what we call a camera. the l' is the definite article you use before a vowel in a noun. I would not translate that as “the apparatus photo,” but as “camera”. This article actually talks about how a dying British reality TV star is marrying her sweetheart. I didn’t even pick this article because of what we are supposed to be talking about, it just showed up as the first article regarding a woman when I searched the news.

This article, from France, talks about how Usain Bolt from Jamaica continues to improve his 400 meter sprint time even after the Olympics are over. There was no mention of Bolt’s marital status in this news report.

This article, from France, mentions how Nicole Richie is pregnant again, a year after having had her first child. Although this article mentions her having a kid, there is no mention of Richie’s marital status.

As I read through the articles, I did notice that my finding seemed to run pretty parallel to the books findings that women’s marital statuses are mentioned 64% of the time, and men’s only 12% of the time. I found it interesting that when I was just searching for American news articles that featured only a man or woman, the first male featured article I found had to do with what he was planning to do (it was based on an accomplishment) and the first female centered article I found had to do with marriage (right off the bat from the title). I think this just proves furthermore that society puts more emphasis on referring to a woman based on her relationship to others, and referring to a man based on his accomplishments. When I looked at French articles, I noticed that neither of the articles mentioned marital status for either men or women. I found this to be very interesting, especially because one of my articles dealt with a second pregnancy, but there was still no mention of her relationship or marital status. I think this just proves that our specific culture is slightly obsessed with these relational references, especially for women.

yes every laptop/premade computer system HAS to be sold with a full fledged operating system permanently installed onto it, or at least the option to have one installed. If this is a reputable dealership, I would take it back to the store and either get my money back or demand that a full OS is installed onto it. Cuz that's just a blatant ripoff.
