I have a few questions (in the form of positions I’ll venture). I pose them less to counter, than to attempt to understand. Thanks for bearing with me.

French is a romantic language (based on Latin), while English is more based on Low German. There are some cross-over words in Latin, but the whole sentence structure is different. You also have to add the gender for words, as every noun is either masculine or feminine.
I cannot comment as to whether learning french is easy, as it is my mother tongue. But you should check out your local public library. Many of them have cds to learn a foreign language available for check-out.
