Mr Cohen you’re right about much of what you say. But I disagree that the alternative of a unilateral declaration of independence is a blind alley.You rightly point out that it won’t open roads or remove occupying forces and settlers. But as you go on to point out, peace talks aren’t about to achieve that either, since it is clear that the current Israeli government has no interest in a negotiated end to occupation and settlement. They just began 550 new homes on the land they claim to be negotiating in good faith to give back. These actions speak louder than all the honeyed peace talk PM Netanyahu uses to soothe and beguile his naïve American interlocutors.Moreover, there is something undeserving and passive about a people who don’t boldly declare their own freedom to the world, but rather wait to be set free by a great power that has historically shown almost no concern for their plight, even colluded with their oppression. It’s also unworthy of the Palestinians, who have never passively accepted their fate to be a captive people.A unilateral declaration of independence would force countries around the world to either stand up for the principles of freedom and self-determination embodied in the UN charter and in our own traditions, or admit that where Israel is concerned, we have no principles at all.Of course such a declaration would not be matched by the facts on the ground at first. The occupation would still be there the day after and that battle remains to be won. it is probabbly easier in western countries because we grow up in a society/country which gives us freedom 2 be woteva and beleev woteva we want,
because in western countries you are not forced into religion, you do what you want having freedom 2 think and you think about life and religion and then you truly beleev,
in muslim countries there isnt dat sense of freedom, so muslims just think their religion is like a birthmark on them a birthmark they cant remove and 2 them itz a burden or just some background culture they happened 2 have been born into but to us westerners it is what keeps us going on in the world, it gives us a purpose which keeps us wondering where life came from and blah blah blah
when your surounded by muslims, the religion becomes a habit / a burden to us
wen your not u see the differences between it how non-muslims in society are different from muslims- what ther beliefs are and so on
only about a 1/3 of the muslims in the world probabbly truly beleev in ther religion or follow the right ways of the religion, the rest are born muslim and stay muslim because they feel they are forced to
