I found this article when I was writing a blog post on The Red Thread. There is a lot to think about here.

On the issue of children having issues with their Chinese cultural heritage, I view that as an often normal part of growing up and finding out who they are, as they establish their own identity especially in college as they leave the home. What I have done with my daughter is expose her to as much as possible to the history of Chinese in the US. A lot of it's not pretty, but such is life.

Sincerely,

1. Latin, Greek, Ancient Hebrew (learning)2. Spanish3. French (learned in school), Chinese (learning)4. Indonesian/Malay (fluent)I’m just curious – for those of you who are successful at learning languages – do you learn them simultaneously or focus on one at a time?

love the picture.

I award you 20 points for your impressive dedication to learning the Chinese language, and the well-deserved fruits of your labors.

10 points for the cuteness factor (5 for you for singing, awesome visual, thanks for that, and 5 for the girl who drew the picture. I'm a girl who loves heartwarming anecdotes, after all.

you should laminate the picture. or put it in a frame.
