The dumbing down of the American School system…. When the schools in America were segregated, the white schools were way ahead of the black schools. When the schools were integrated, the white schools had to have their courses dumbed down so the black students could do the work.

“Users need to be able to get to and submit town and campus news, as well as navigate shows, playlists etc. They should also be able to start listening to the web-stream very easily.” Professional user experience/interface designer here. You described the goals and tasks the site needs to facilitate for your users. That’s a good start. However, your execution of this in your mockup is lacking. There are two parts you need to tackle to ensure a good design. First, create a solid information architecture (layout, order, navigation). Second, create a solid visual design (colors, identity, style). I currently see issues with both. Since I’m not involved in this project it’s hard for me to get specific with the details, but overall your design is too much, too big, too complicated and not simple enough. The placement and order of things is off, weird and funky. Your login information, settings, DJ panel, FB login should all be in the top right and laid out horizontally. This is self-explanatory. Your tagline doesnt need to say KMNR 89.7 since your logo says that so clearly. A tagline needs to be simple and clear, and be placed next to your logo, not to the far right corner. Your navigation is right aligned. Why? You’re making it harder to access for users, and you throw them off with this funky alignment. They expect navigations to be aligned left within their reach and visibility. The Semesters section show archives on the left needs to only display when the user clicks the shows page. That’s when that information is relevant, when users ask for it, and it should be right aligned because they are archives and not the primary content. Honestly, there are more issues than I can list, describe and diagnose on here. If you really want this done right, message me and hire me to design your web interface.
