Mychal Wilmes: Finally finding a niche at the church Funfest
“Do you need a taste–tester?” The church ladies chased me away like a pesky fly. The homemade pies that filled the long table didn’t need testing because they had been prepared using recipes handed down from mothers to granddaughters. The perfectly sugared, marked and browned peach, apple and blueberry pies would certainly be purple ribbon county fair winners.

Disappointed that I will not be able to visit your store. Does your wife still make formidable blueberry pies?
The great thing about Montreal is that even the nice/trendy stuff is a bit low-key, but if you go with something that’s a “chain”, you’re not going to go wrong. No matter what, things are down to earth. Make sure you get shish taouk. Most Amir are great. Some do it themselves and are better than others. A shish taouk sandwich is a great snack. There’s a small chain called “Arouch” and they have…Aremenian pizza. Not too big and again, makes a great snack. Personally, I don’t think a trip to Montreal is complete without a medium smoked meat sandwich at Schwartz. But directly across the street is The Main and they have a surprisingly good burger. I don’t get smoked meat there. I usually get the burger special, my wife gets the ribs special and we split them. They also have homemade pies that are really special. If you can’t make it to Decarie hot dog…make sure you get one anyway. Get yourself a steamie + moutarde/chou avec poivron rouge. Mustard, cabbage, red pepper. But also get a toastie avec moutarde, bacon et fromage. It’s like a grilled cheese bacon hot dog. These are great snacks and while they’re better some places than others, most any Restaurant La Belle Province will do. I also think you need to get a Sous-Marin (submarine)…it’s like a grilled sandwich, similar to a cheesesteak. Lots of places have them, they vary greatly, but Mike’s is probably the best for a place you can trust and find. Split one with your SO. Basically it’s like steak, pepperoni, smoked meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and dressing. Finally, I’ll make a different post for something else.
perhaps he just didn't find it that funny….?
Ok, so at the end of a long, difficult day, settling in to read some good news, it quite suddenly, out of nowhere dawns on me that this is the third anniversary of my beloved grandmother’s death. I am going to tell you all about her because she was the most important person in my life & remarkable.
no more purple ribbon but Bubbas working on new records I have one with him.
I guess Good Vibrations…and my addition would be..mmm..Fire and Rain, James Taylor
Try looking at the Ying Yang Twins songs
I do not like eggs. I certainly do not like egg salad. Alas, my family does though – so I put in Mayo, a tad of butter, a tad of mustard, sweet pickle relish, salt and pepper. I always sprinkle a bit of paprika on the tops. I will have to ask them if they want to try dill in theirs. I always have to round up a taste tester when I fix it. I would love a new Brita with a soft-grip handle, non-slip base, and a sensor that lets me know when the filter needs to be replaced. That would be cool.
Living on in our traditions –
Probably. Try rephrasing it as 'Food Critic for International Restaurant Chain'.
Later Daze! =)
We did this for a while in our previous church. Ladies had a Bible Study at a home close by the church building and the men (pastor included) had a “kid's club” at the church building. We sang with the kids, had a Bible story, did a very simple craft, and had snacks.
The kids loved it, the moms had a great Bible study, us dads learned that we could enjoy children's ministry.
