If you are interested in this topic, be sure to visit the special exhibition in the Japan gallery at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Japanese diplomatic envoy which first touched US soil at San Francisco. The exhibition features diaries, momentos and lots of art work from the Japanese visitors as well as friendship dolls presented to the US in an attempt to counter later discriminatory legislation by the US against the Japanese. The exhibition closes November 21 so hurry!!
